Fire Danger On Thursday Before Storms Return To Chicago Area

"The combination of warm, dry and breezy conditions may cause fires to spread out of control," the weather service said.

An elevated fire danger is expected Thursday due to dry, windy conditions, before temperatures warm up through the weekend and rain and storm chances return, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday will have a high of 88 degrees, and there is an increased grass/brush fire threat.

"The combination of warm, dry and breezy conditions may cause fires to spread out of control," the weather service said. The driest conditions are expected Thursday afternoon.

Rain and storm chances will then return to the area on Friday, with more chances over the weekend. Friday will have a high of 84, Saturday a high of 87 and Sunday a high of 88 degrees.

The weather service said showers and widely scattered storms are possible Friday and Friday night.

"The strongest storms could produce locally heavy rainfall and isolated damaging wind gusts," the weather service said.

There is also a chance of scattered storms on Saturday, with rain ending overnight, and a chance of storms on Sunday as well.

Here is a more detailed look at the weather through the weekend, per the weather service:

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny, with a high near 87. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low around 66. South southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

FRIDAY: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 83. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 65. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

SATURDAY: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 7 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. West southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

SATURDAY NIGHT: A 20 percent chance of showers before 1 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 64.

SUNDAY: A 20 percent chance of showers after 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 85.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65.
