Flood Watch For Parts Of Chicago Area, Stormy Weather Continues

Parts of the Chicago area are under a flood watch on Thursday as excessive rainfall is possible, according to the National Weather Service.

To the south of the Chicago area, some counties are under a severe thunderstorm watch. However, closer to the city, heavy rain is the bigger concern.

A flood watch is in effect from Thursday evening through Friday morning as localized rainfall rates may exceed two inches per hour. Some parts of the area has already received 2 to 4 inches of rain over the past few days, according to the weather service.

DeKalb, Will, Ford, Grundy, Kankakee, Kendall, La Salle, Iroquois and Ogle counties are under the flood watch.

The weather service said the heaviest rain is expected generally south of a Forreston to Valparaiso, Indiana, line.

The weather service said additional waves of storms are likely through the weekend for northern Illinois. Friday will have a high of 85 degrees, Saturday a high of 89 and Sunday a high of 88.

THURSDAY: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 4 p.m. Cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 75 by 4pm. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 68. East northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

FRIDAY: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 5 p.m., then a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. East wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

FRIDAY NIGHT: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. East northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

SATURDAY: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 p.m., then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. Southeast wind around 10 mph becoming south southwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
