Severe Storm Chances, Heat and Humidity Return To Chicago Area

Peak heat index values of 105 are possible on Sunday and Monday.

Heat and humidity will make another return to end the weekend, as well as a chance of severe weather, according to the National Weather Service.

Friday will be dry and sunny, with a high of 81 degrees. This stretch of "unusually comfortable weather for late July" will end this weekend, the weather service said.

Saturday will have a high of 83 degrees, and there is a chance of rain Saturday morning. Saturday will also start to be more humid and muggy by Saturday night, according to the current forecast.

The heat and humidity really make a return starting Sunday, which has a high of 92 degrees. Peak heat index values will be around 105 degrees.

Heat will continue into Monday, which has a high of 93 degrees. The heat may be "accompanied by a period or two of thunderstorms and some threat for severe weather," the weather service said.

The storms could disrupt the magnitude of the heat, according to the weather service. Uncertainty remains on if storms would impact the area, but "the weather pattern will be supportive of rounds of storms," the weather service said.

FRIDAY: A slight chance of sprinkles before 10 a.m. Cloudy early, then gradual clearing, with a high near 80. South southwest wind around 5 mph, with gusts as high as 10 mph.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear, with a low around 62. South southwest wind around 5 mph.

SATURDAY: Partly sunny, with a high near 80. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

SUNDAY: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

SUNDAY NIGHT: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 75.
