6 Injured In Wrong-Way DUI Crash On Randall Road: Police

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A McHenry County man is facing multiple felony DUI charges after authorities say he caused a head-on crash on Randall Road that seriously injured six people in a minivan.

Robert D. Barrett, 42, of Lake in the Hills, was driving a 2016 BMW north in the southbound lanes of Randall Road in the early morning hours of May 31 when he collided head-on with the minivan, according to the Kane County State's Attorney's Office news release.

Prosecutors allege Barrett was under the influence of alcohol and driving with a revoked license at the time of the crash, and officers reported signs of impairment including slurred speech, red, glassy eyes and the odor of alcohol. Six passengers in the minivan were transported to area hospitals, according to authorities.

Barrett also has seven prior DUI-related convictions, prosecutors said.

He has been charged with aggravated DUI as a sixth or subsequent offense, aggravated DUI causing great bodily harm, and aggravated DUI while driving on a revoked license.

Following a June 1 detention hearing, a judge ordered Barrett remain held in the Kane County Jail, finding he poses a threat to public safety if released.

Barrett’s next court date is scheduled for June 10 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
