Bomb Threat Prompts Evacuation At Lake in the Hills Costco

A bomb threat prompted the evacuation of a Costco store Tuesday afternoon.

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — A bomb threat prompted the evacuation of a Costco store Tuesday afternoon, but authorities later determined there was no danger and allowed the business to reopen.

Police said the Lake in the Hills Police Department responded around 3:30 p.m. to a report of a person claiming they were bringing a pipe bomb to the Costco at 250 N. Randall Road. Officers evacuated the building and secured the area as a precaution, according to a news release from the Lake in the Hills Police Department.

Authorities also urged the public to avoid the area while the investigation was ongoing.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office assisted with its bomb squad and explosives detection canine unit, and after conducting a thorough search of the property, authorities determined there was no credible threat, police said.

No injuries were reported.
