Boyer Road To Close Monday For $3.7M Algonquin Project

ALGONQUIN, IL — Boyer Road will close to through traffic Monday, Sept. 14, as work begins on a $3.7 million improvement project in Algonquin, village officials said.

The closure, weather permitting, will affect nearly one mile of Boyer Road between County Line Road and Longmeadow Parkway. A posted detour will be in place throughout construction, which is expected to continue into summer 2027. according to the news release.

Access to homes and businesses along Boyer Road will be maintained during construction. Emergency vehicles, school buses and delivery services will also have access, officials said.

The project will include:

• Reconstructing nearly one mile of Boyer Road
• Upgrading the drainage system
• Adding sidewalk and multi-use path connections
• Installing new landscaping
• Installing a new 12-inch water main

The improvements are intended to create a safer and more durable roadway, improve the reliability and capacity of the village's water system, and make it easier for pedestrians and bicyclists to travel through the area, according to a news release.

The village said completing the roadway and water main work at the same time will also reduce the need to disturb new pavement for future utility improvements.

Berger Excavating Contractors Inc. was awarded the construction contract through the state's public bidding process. The project is receiving $1.45 million in federal Surface Transportation Program-Local funding, which helps fund local road, bridge and path improvements, village officials said.

The Boyer Road closure is expected to remain in place through the winter, depending on weather conditions. Drivers should follow posted detour signs, allow extra travel time and use caution near the construction zone.
