A Huntley teacher and father of three is recovering after suffering a severe spinal cord injury that left him partially paralyzed when a tree fell on him while he was cutting it down at his Algonquin home on July 22.
Family members said John "JD" Hoth was wearing protective gear and taking proper safety precautions when the tree unexpectedly failed, according to Lake & McHenry County Scanner. Hoth underwent emergency surgery and currently has no feeling below his chest as he begins what is expected to be a lengthy rehabilitation.
