Burglars Target Vehicles, Garages In Arlington Heights

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Arlington Heights police are investigating a series of burglaries to vehicles and residences reported during the early morning hours of Sept. 11.

The incidents were reported in the 1600 block of South Princeton Avenue and the 1500 and 1600 blocks of Surrey Ridge Drive, according to the Arlington Heights Police Department.

Some victims told police they had left their vehicles unlocked in driveways, while others reported broken car windows.

Police said the suspects stole personal property and, in some cases, used remote garage door openers found inside vehicles to enter garages and burglarize additional vehicles.

Police Pursuing Leads

Detectives began working to identify the suspects shortly after the reports came in.

The department said its Automated License Plate Reader technology and other camera systems deployed throughout Arlington Heights have generated several investigative leads.

Detectives are also reviewing surveillance footage and coordinating with neighboring police departments that responded to similar reports that same morning.

Police said the suspects used two vehicles: a black Lincoln Navigator and a white Lincoln Navigator that had been reported stolen out of Chicago.

Residents Asked To Check Cameras

Residents in the affected areas are being asked to review home surveillance and doorbell camera footage from the overnight hours of Sept. 10 into Sept. 11.

Police also reminded residents to keep vehicles locked, remove valuables and garage door openers from view, park inside garages when possible and secure garage service doors.

“"There is no cause for alarm, but please remain observant and report suspicious activity as it happens," the department said.
