Wheeling Township Mental Health Board Opens Grant Applications

The Wheeling Township Community Mental Health Board (WTCMHB) is now accepting grant applications for its March 1, 2027, through February 29, 2028, funding cycle. Public, private and nonprofit organizations that provide prevention, treatment, recovery support or other services related to mental health, substance use disorders, and developmental or intellectual disabilities for Wheeling Township residents are encouraged to apply. Applications must be submitted through the Board's online application system by 5 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026.

"The Community Mental Health Board is committed to investing in organizations that improve access to high-quality behavioral health and developmental disability services for Township residents," said newly elected WTCMHB President Lorri Grainawi. "These grants help strengthen our network of providers that serve our residents, so they have access to the support and resources they need, when they need them."

The WTCMHB is seeking proposals in two primary funding categories:

• Mental Health and Substance Use Services: Prevention, treatment and recovery support programs serving Township residents.
• Developmental Disability Services: Community-based programs that promote inclusion, independence and quality of life for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities, including structured day programs, community inclusion, employment services and care navigation – in addition to respite services that provide short-term relief for primary caregivers during emergencies, illness or periods of caregiver fatigue.

For the 2027–2028 funding cycle, the Board will prioritize proposals that maintain and expand access to essential services, while addressing community needs such as language accessibility, culturally inclusive programming, reduced wait times, workforce development and retention, and short-term respite services.

Eligible applicants include:

• Nonprofit organizations recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization for at least two years
• For-profit businesses that are properly licensed, certified and insured
• Government agencies and departments located within Wheeling Township

All applicants must demonstrate financial accountability, organizational stability, and the ability to measure and report program outcomes.

Funding applications are available online at wheelingtownship.submittable.com/submit. Late applications will not be accepted.

Funding recommendations will be evaluated between August and October 2026, with applicants expected to be notified of funding decisions in January 2027. The grant period will run from March 1, 2027, through February 29, 2028.
