Aurora Farmers Market Prepares For 115th Season

The season opener for what is considered to be the oldest farmers market in Illinois is quickly approaching.

AURORA, IL — The 115th season of the Aurora Farmers Market, considered the oldest in Illinois, opens in less than two weeks.

Established in 1912, the farmers market will take to Water Street in downtown Aurora beginning June 6. With about 60 vendors set to participate weekly, the market will operate from 8 a.m. to noon through Oct. 3.

The West Side market, at 1999 W. Galena Blvd., will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday from July 1 through Sept. 2.

"We are so excited to kick off our 115th season," Aurora Farmers Market Manager Felicia Freitag said in a statement. "We're looking forward to welcoming a diverse array of vendors and visitors to downtown Aurora for this yearly summer staple."

A number of first-year vendors are gearing up to participate in the Aurora market. They include Microcosm Farm, showcasing fresh produce and sauerkrauts; Rainbow Flock n' Farm, featuring eggs, poultry, jellies, salsas and spices; and Avocado Theory, offering a customizable guacamole bar.

Longtime favorites, including Dick's Mini Donuts, Alice's Corner and Dapper Brews Coffee, will also be on hand each week.

Theme days will also return this summer, with each day featuring giveaways and activities:

  • June 13: Community Planting Day
  • July 25: Touch-A-Truck
  • Aug. 8: National Farmers Market Week celebration o
  • Aug. 29: Dog Appreciation Day
  • Sept. 12: Farmers Market Fiestas

Kids will again be able to enjoy Sprouts Club from 9-11 a.m. each week. Children who participate can acquire a stamp in their club booklet each week, along with a $5 token to use on fruits and vegetables at the farmers market.

The farmers market will also continue to partner with Experimental Station to offer link-matching services on eligible food items. Cardholders can use the program to double their funds, receive tokens and vouchers to redeem on food at the market.
