Shots Fired Near Mitchell Road, Aurora Avenue: PD

A car was damaged in the Monday afternoon gunfire, Aurora police said.

AURORA, IL — Shots were fired Monday afternoon near Aurora Avenue and Mitchell Road, according to Aurora police.

A large police presence responded at about 4:38 p.m. to the area for a report of shots fired. Officials referred to the incident as a "criminal matter" in an alert shared on Facebook just before 5 p.m.

A car was damaged by the gunfire, officials said. No injuries were reported.

Police conducted a thorough search of the area but did not locate any suspects, according to an update. Police said there was no threat to the community.

Aurora Avenue was closed between East Indian Trail Road and Hankes Avenue until about 5:13 p.m. while police cleared the scene.
