AURORA, IL — Students from East Aurora High School and West Aurora High School recently came together for a special Culinary Exchange, a day centered on hands-on learning, collaboration, and building connections across the city.

The culinary experience began Tuesday, April 7, at West Aurora High School, where students from both schools worked together in the kitchen to make pretzel rolls. Side by side, students shared techniques, learned from one another, and experienced how another culinary program operates.

After the morning session, the group traveled across town to East Aurora High School to continue the exchange. There, students prepared smash burgers, shared a meal together, and exchanged small gifts to commemorate the day. The event provided an opportunity for students to connect not only through cooking, but also through conversation and teamwork.
Throughout the day, students proudly wore shirts that read, “The river may divide us, but the color RED unites us.” The message captured the spirit of the event, celebrating the shared pride, passion, and community that exists between the two schools despite the Fox River separating them.

The exchange highlighted the strength of both culinary programs and demonstrated how collaborative learning experiences can expand students’ skills while building lasting friendships. By stepping into each other’s kitchens and classrooms, students gained new perspectives on culinary education and strengthened connections between the two school communities.
