Driver Succumbs To Injuries In Randall Road, Mill Street Crash: Batavia Police

A woman was charged with speeding following the crash that led to the death of the 65-year-old Batavia man.

BATAVIA, IL — A month after being involved in a crash Feb. 24 at Mill Street and Randall Road, a Batavia man died as a result of his injuries, and the other driver involved faced charges, police said in an update Wednesday.

After extensive medical treatment, Chris Boettcher was pronounced dead March 20, less than a month after the crash. He was 65.

The crash happened at about 7:50 p.m. when a Chrysler Sebring, driven by Boettcher, was attempting to turn from northbound Randall Road onto westbound Mill Street and struck a Hyundai Elantra, driven by the 54-year-old Christine Nitti, that was driving south on Randall Road, police said.

Both drivers were hospitalized, with Nitti suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

Nitti, of the 1300 block of Spencer Lane in Batavia, was charged with speeding and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Authorities issued the charges "following consultation with the Kane County State's Attorney's Office and after consideration of all available evidence,"officials said.

Court records list Nitti's case as closed, following an April 9 disposition for the speeding charge.

"The Batavia Police Department offers our sincere condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Mr. Boettcher," officials said. "Our thoughts remain with all those affected by this tragic crash as the community mourns this heartbreaking loss."
