2 Florida Men Used Stolen Credit Card Info In Scheme To Buy $5K In Tablets At Target: Bolingbrook Police

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Two Florida men are facing weapons and fraud charges after an incident on Wednesday, Bolingbrook Police said.

Police said officers with the BPD problem-oriented policing unit responded to Macy's at 3:48 p.m. Wednesday for a report of two people wearing hoods and masks, loading up a large amount of merchandise into a cart.

Before officers arrived, the two people tried payment using a credit card, which was declined, police said. The two exited the store and entered a white BMW with Ohio registration.

Officers were then told of an incident that just happened at Target, 1188 W. Boughton Road, where over $5,000 worth of electronic tablets were purchased fraudulently with a credit card, police said.

The description of the Target suspects and vehicle, including registration, matched the description of the individuals at Macy’s in the white BMW, according to police.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on the BMW in the parking lot of 699 E. Boughton Road. While officers ordered them out of the vehicle, the driver, identified as Darius Wiggins, 24, of Florida, placed the car in reverse but was quickly removed and detained, police said.

The passenger, Shawn Silfrin, 25, also of Florida, was found in possession of a loaded FN 5.7mm handgun on his person, police said.

After further investigation, police said Wiggins was released without charges, while Silfrin was charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

Further investigation then revealed that the credit card used in this case was obtained from a victim via a telephone scam, police said. In addition to the fraudulent purchase, a large amount of currency was withdrawn from the victim’s bank account.

Probable cause was developed for the arrest of Darius Wiggins, and he was taken into custody Thursday in Naperville after he tried to flee on foot, police said.

Silfrin is now charged with two counts of armed violence, two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a credit card, fraud, burglary and deceptive practice.

Wiggins is charged with unlawful use of a credit card, deceptive practice and resisting arrest.
