Imagine if a knock at the door was the only human contact you had all day. For many older adults in Illinois, that is a daily reality.
At Meals on Wheels for Northern Illinois (MOWFNI), we believe that everyone deserves nutritious food and a friendly face. But we can’t deliver on that promise alone. We rely on the hearts, hands, and wheels of local volunteers just like you to keep our community nourished and connected.

Many people want to give back but worry they don’t have enough time. The beauty of volunteering with MOWFNI is that it fits seamlessly into a busy schedule. A typical delivery route takes just two hours. You can easily deliver meals between errands, or as a meaningful activity.
You can volunteer once a week, once a month, or even team up with coworkers or friends to share a route. Here is a video to learn about the Day in the Life of a Volunteer.

More Than a Meal
While the nutritious, hot food we deliver is vital, our volunteers frequently tell us that the social connection is the most rewarding part. For many of our clients, a volunteer is not just a delivery person—they are a friend, a lifeline, and a reason to smile.
Furthermore, our volunteers provide a crucial safety check. By stepping up to the door, you can help ensure that our neighbors are safe, healthy, and able to live independently in the homes they love.
