Nearly 50 year employee with Caterpillar Inc passes away at the age of 85.

Charles Herman Newland
Age 85, of Crest Hill, Illinois, passed from this life Friday, August 21, 2026. He was born February 24, 1941 to the late Gertrude and Robert Newland in Houston, Minnesota, where he was raised on the family farm. Farm life impacted Chuck greatly. His love of nature, the simple things in life and especially a "work til the job is done and not by the time of day" mentality led him to a long and satisfying nearly 50 year career with Caterpillar Inc. shortly after his arrival in Joliet after his honorable discharge from the US Army.

Not long after settling here, he met his beautiful bride, Mae Scott with whom he shared 57 years of marriage with until her passing in 2021.
In addition to Mae, Chuck is also preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his sons, Richard (Belinda) and Robert Newland; grandsons, Cody and Shane; sisters, Roberta Warnken, Irene Rislov and Mary Newland. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Chuck, always active, could be found walking, jogging and oftentimes bicycling which he thoroughly enjoyed, logging an amazing amount of miles on his last bike!
He and Mae kept a pristine yard with beautiful landscaping and flowers. The farm boy in him also grew a variety of vegetables, to which he shared with family, friends and neighbors.
Chuck was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Atlanta Braves. He loved to watch sports along with Jeopardy.
All friends and relatives are invited to join the Newland family in commemorating Chuck and Mae on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1910 Black Rd in Joliet where services will begin at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will be held privately at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
In lieu of flowers memorials in their name can be made to Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Careor St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
