1 Killed, 1 Wounded In Shooting At Wheeling Hotel: Police

WHEELING, IL — A 60-year-old Chicago man was killed and another man was wounded in a shooting Sunday evening at a Wheeling hotel, police said.

Wheeling police were called at 6:51 p.m. to the MainStay Suites in the 8000 block of Capital Drive for a report of shots fired.

Officers, assisted by police from neighboring jurisdictions, found two men suffering from gunshot wounds, according to the Wheeling Police Department.

Officers immediately began providing emergency medical treatment until Wheeling firefighters arrived. Both men were taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital for treatment.

One of the men survived his injuries. The second was later pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

The man who died was 60 years old and lived in Chicago, according to records from the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. He was pronounced dead at 8:10 p.m. Sunday, shortly after the shooting at the hotel. His name has not yet been released in the medical examiner's listing.

Police also did not immediately release additional information about what led to the shooting, whether the two men knew each other or whether investigators are searching for a suspect.

The Wheeling Police Department's Investigations Unit is handling the case with assistance from the Major Case Assistance Team, or MCAT.
