Buffalo Grove Rotary To Dedicate New Peace Pole Monument

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove will dedicate a new Peace Pole monument Thursday at Ernie Karge Rotary Village Green.

The ceremony is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. Sept. 24, at the park, 265 N. Buffalo Grove Road.

A Peace Pole displays the message "May Peace Prevail On Earth" in the language of the country where it is placed and typically includes several additional languages meaningful to the host community, according to the Rotary Club.

The monuments are intended to promote unity among people of different cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds while advancing Rotary's broader goal of fostering a culture of peace.

Speakers at the Buffalo Grove ceremony are expected to include Village President Eric Smith, Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove President Jason Davis, state Sen. Adriane Johnson and Rotary District 6440 Governor-Elect Mariana Alfar.

Parking will be available behind the Buffalo Grove Post Office, 255 N. Buffalo Grove Road, and on the east end of the park.

Rotary International includes about 1.2 million members in more than 45,000 clubs across more than 200 countries and geographical areas, according to the organization.
