Burr Ridge Moves Ahead With New Village Hall, Preschool Plan

BURR RIDGE, IL – Burr Ridge is poised to move ahead with its new Village Hall and approve the plans for the preschool that is going into the old building.

At Monday's Village Board meeting, the staff is set to request trustees' consensus on bid documents for the new offices. If they approve, the project is set to go out to bid next week.

The board had previously planned to award a contract in August. Now, it is set to do so in September.

The village had hoped the work would wrap up next July.

"While dates are important, ensuring that the public has sufficient notice and opportunity to be aware of these steps is paramount; thus, the Board of Trustees has asked for public notice to occur before any potential final bid approval," Village Administrator Evan Walter said in an email to Patch on Friday. "The Village will consider approval of a bid in September to ensure the public has sufficient opportunity to be aware of this matter."

For the last couple of months, the board has been meeting at Gower Middle School in preparation for the project.

Last fall, the Goddard preschool chain agreed to buy the 40-year-old Village Hall for $2.7 million.

At Monday's meeting, the board is set to vote on Goddard's plan for the property. The village's Plan Commission recommended it.

Goddard plans to enroll 120 to 180 children and employ 20 to 30 staff, according to village documents.

The new Village Hall will be attached to the next-door police station, which was built 16 years ago. Officials said their plan ensures the village offices will blend into the station, so that it doesn't look like an addition.

The new village offices are estimated to cost $7.5 million. The village said the project requires no debt.
