CFD Member Dies During North Side During Training Exercise: Reports

The Chicago Fire Department is mourning the loss of a 30-year veteran of the force.

CHICAGO—A Chicago firefighter has died during a training exercise on the city's North Side, Chicago fire officials said.

The training exercise took place in a residential neighborhood in the 6600 block of North Kedzie Avenue in Chicago's West Ridge neighborhood, fire officials said Thursday.

“The Chicago Fire Department mourns the loss of a 30-year member who died today during a training exercise. A procession to the Medical Examiner's Office is pending,” CFD said in a statement on X.”

The training was taking place in residential

The firefighter was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where the member died.

Giant American flags were raised between crossed ladders over Western Avenue for the solemn procession from Evanston to the Cook County Medical Examiner.

Chicago fire officials have not released the firefighter's age or name, or what type of training exercise was being conducted.
