Ground Stops Delay Over 800 Flights At O'Hare, Midway Due To Thunderstorms

An air traffic control alert says flights were halted in Chicago.

CHICAGO — A ground stop has been issued at Chicago's airports early Thursday afternoon due to thunderstorms, according to an air traffic control alert.

As of 1:30 p.m., there have been 108 delays at the Midway, along with 34 cancellations. The situation was worse at O'Hare, with 704 delays and 283 cancellations.

Travelers should check with their airline before heading to the airport and monitor flight status updates through Midway, the Federal Aviation Administration or flight tracking services.
