South Suburban United Women In Faith Group Hosts Black History Month Celebration And Luncheon

The United Women in Faith of Olympia Fields United Methodist Church is hosting a free community Black History Month Celebration with a luncheon featuring foods across the African Diaspora. The Guest speaker is Author, Aretha D. Williams.

At a time when politicians are rolling back initiatives to commemorate the history of black people in the United States, Olympia Fields United Methodist Church has made celebrating the accomplishments of black people a priority. The United Women in Faith describes itself as a sisterhood acting in faith to tackle the hard work of the world without hesitation. The organization meets at local churches and homes and consists of members of various Christian denominations. Each group is called a "circle" and Olympia Fields United Methodist Church hosts two United Women in Faith circles.

The Black History Month celebration is being hosted by the Mary Martha Circle of United Women in Faith and will be held at the church, located at 20301 S. Western in Olympia Fields, Illinois, on Saturday, February 21, 2026 from noon-2pm. The community is welcome at this free event and foods from several countries will be served (i.e. Nigeria, Jamaica, America, Puerto Rico, Kenya). Membership in United Women in Faith is free and inclusive of all women. Men are welcome to meetings if they support the mission of United Women in Faith. The United Women in Faith will be hosting an assembly in May in Indianapolis Indiana, where the keynote speaker will be Stacey Abrams. Past keynote speakers have included Hillary Rodham Clinton and Leymah Gbowee.

During Black History Month, the United Women in Faith have also been hosting Spiritual Growth Meditation sessions via zoom. To register for the In Person Black History Celebration on February 21, 2026, the United Women in Faith is asking attendees to register on Eventbrite at the link below:
