'Big Smile, Adorable Little Giggle': Family Remembers Infant Found Unresponsive At Daycare

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — Cameron Morris — a 9-month-old boy who died last week after he was found unresponsive at a Woodstock daycare — is being remembered by his family as a joyful and deeply loved infant.

"Cam was known and is remembered for his always-present big smile, adorable little giggle and excited happy feet," according to his obituary. "He gently held your finger with his whole hand and heart, touched the lives around him and warmed the hearts of everyone he met."

Staff at the House of Children, located in the 2500 block of Harding Lane in Woodstock, found Morris unresponsive during a scheduled check at about 10:45 a.m. on May 5, according to Shaw Local. A staff member noticed the baby was not breathing while napping, according to Lieb.

Staff called 911 and emergency crews arrived on scene within three minutes, Alex Vucha, public information officer for the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District, told Patch.

"Prior to the arrival of crews, on-site staff had already begun providing care to the infant, which allowed responding personnel to immediately continue advanced lifesaving efforts upon arrival," he said. "Incidents involving young children are highly stressful for everyone involved, and the ability for multiple groups to work together under pressure plays an important role in patient care."

The first emergency crews at the scene continued life-saving efforts and "through a coordinated effort were able to stabilize" the baby before he was transported to a nearby hospital. Morris was then transferred to Lurie's Children's Hospital in Chicago where he died on May 7.

Morris is survived by his parents, Kylie and Eric Morris, and siblings Mckenna Morris and Jack Morris, according to his obituary.

"A special memory was meeting him for the first time; while watching his siblings glow as they welcomed him home," according to his obituary. He is also being remembered for "his always-present big smile, adorable little giggle and excited happy feet."

In a Facebook post shared on May 5, the House of Learning addressed the incident.

"We would like to extend our gratitude to our community for the overwhelming support show to the little one who experienced a medical emergency today," according to the statement posted on Facebook. "We are extremely proud of our team for their prompt and professional response, and above all, we are wishing for a speedy and full recovery for this sweet baby."

The statement is no longer posted publicly on the House of Learning Facebook page.

The cause of Morris' death remains under investigation.
