Prayer and Thanksgiving for God’s Righteous Judgements
Let us be grateful that God's judgments are complete in their nature and perfect in their determinations; revealing that He is trustworthy.

Amidst the difficulties of modern life, it is difficult to remember that the Lord our God is worthy of our constant and continuous praise; we get distracted or discouraged; forgetting that all people from all generations experienced the same thing just in different ways.
In the first two verses David makes a decision to lift God up in praise and in worship. Psalm 9:1-2 read, “I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works. 2 I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.”
In these two verses David proclaims that he will not only praise the Lord, be glad in the Lord, and rejoice in the Lord, singing praises unto the Lord; David will tell others of God’s marvelous works; marvelous works which are not abstract but are instead deeply personal to David and are completely and absolutely indicative of God’s character.Church, this isn’t an impulse by David, no, this is a decision by David to bear witness to God’s glory; in response to God deciding to love us.
Takeaway
We are to show our love for God and our love for people by praising His name and witnessing unto His glory amongst all people for all generations and at all times.
Then for the majority of the rest of the Psalm, David gives personal testimony of the marvelous works of the Lord; those personal experiences which support the scriptures and that bolter David’s faith and call to obedience.
He praises God for doing perfectly in the life of every human being what we read in Jeremiah 17:10, “I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.”
David goes on to elaborate on those who will be the benefactors of God’s justice and those whom He favors; those for whom He will provide.He makes it known that God’s justice is not abstract, it is universal, deeply personal and it is administered at eye level; a loving Father who bends down to be on the level of His children to make His presence known.In fact, God did this when He took the form of a man, while still God, Jesus Christ.
David ends with prayer and proclamation for the ages as Psalm 9:13-20 reads, “Have mercy on me, O Lord! Consider my trouble from those who hate me, You who lift me up from the gates of death, 14 That I may tell of all Your praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion. I will rejoice in Your salvation. 15 The nations have sunk down in the pit which they made; in the net which they hid, their own foot is caught. 16 The Lord is known by the judgment He executes; the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands.The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. 18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten; the expectation of the poor shall not perish forever. 19 Arise, O Lord, do not let man prevail; let the nations be judged in Your sight. 20 Put them in fear, O Lord, that the nations may know themselves to be but men.”
Indeed, God reigns over the nations and lays them low but more than this God lifts His people from the pit of hell; the place of the second death.
The God of the scriptures is to be revered and held in awe for more reasons than I could ever possibly list as I stand here before you today, but one of those reasons, happens to be this, He moves us from despair to worship; from being destitute to being adopted; from being dead to being born again and, and, He does so not because we deserve it, He does so because He desires to do so.
Takeaway
When we are shaken, we must remember that God’s rule is unshakeable.History is not driven by kings, armies, or governments — but by the God of the holy scriptures, He Who sits enthroned and suffers long so that sinners would become saints in the name of Jesus.Let us be sure we are giving Him His due, that He reigns over our hearts.
