Weekend Roundup: Block Parties, Tastings, Family-Friendly Fun

Here is a look at events happening in and around Lake and McHenry counties this weekend:

• 14th Annual GLMV Extreme Block Party Family Expo and Taste of the Towns
  10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the DoubleTree in Mundelein. A family-friendly block party featuring local vendors, activities, and food from area restaurants.
• Sip Around The World
  11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in downtown Woodstock. A tasting event highlighting beverages and flavors from around the world.
• Huntley Derby Day
  2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Town Square in Huntley. A festive afternoon celebration with themed Derby Day activities.
• Bonfire and Brews: Food Truck Frenzy in Gurnee
  6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Viking Park in Gurnee. Food trucks, drinks, and an evening bonfire atmosphere.
• Northern Illinois LEGO Train Club Exhibit
  Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. at the Algonquin Area Public Library. A detailed LEGO train display for all ages.
• Independence Grove Forest Preserve and Canoe Launch Open for the Season
  Open daily 6:30 a.m. to sunset through September 30. The popular lakefront preserve and canoe launch is officially open for the season.
• Goat Stroll at Elawa Farm
  Noon to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Elawa Farm. A short guided stroll featuring the farm’s goats.
• WPPC Annual Native Plant Sale
  Noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the College of Lake County. A native plant sale supporting local conservation efforts.
