The driver's side rear window was left open, and the inside of the car did not seem hot, police said.

Police found the mother's name in a car registration search, and the employee paged the boy's mother.

The mother arrived about 1:10 p.m. The report described her as "very cooperative and apologetic."

The woman said she understood it was not safe for the boy to be alone and promised not to do so again, police said.

She was charged with endangering the health or life of a child and then was released. She lives in the 5000 block of Florence Avenue in Downers Grove.
