Tollway Worker Killed, 2 Injured In I-294 Crash: Police
Southbound lanes of I-294 are shut down, with traffic being diverted at Golf Road following the fatal crash, state police said.
DES PLAINES, IL — A tollway maintenance worker was killed and two others were injured after they were struck by a passenger vehicle while repairing potholes on Interstate 294, according to Illinois State Police.
Police tell Patch all southbound lanes of I-294 are currently shut down as of 6:30 a.m., and traffic is being diverted at Golf Road. Motorists should try to avoid the area if possible.
A preliminary investigation indicates three workers were conducting pothole repairs at around 4:26 a.m. when a passenger vehicle struck them, police said.

All three workers were taken to an area hospital with injuries. One of the workers was later pronounced dead.
