Resident Shot During Police Response To Domestic Incident In Des Plaines: Cops

DES PLAINES, IL — A resident was shot as police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance Wednesday afternoon, police said in a news release.

Des Plaines police said officers responded to a home in the 2000 block of Touhy Avenue just after 2:30 p.m.

"During the response, an officer-involved shooting occurred involving a male resident of the home," police said in a news release.

The Des Plaines Fire Department provided medical aid and took the resident to a local hospital, according to the release.

Police said no further details were immediately available.

Police said the Major Case Assistance Team is investigating and "will conduct an impartial, third-party review."

A stretch of Touhy Avenue was shut down Wednesday afternoon as Des Plaines police were investigating.

Police said in a social media alert posted at 3:46 p.m. that Touhy Avenue was closed between Des Plaines River Road and Scott Street.

Police said there was no threat to the public.

According to CBS Chicago, a neighbor reported hearing screaming from inside the home after seeing squad cars and officers putting up police tape outside.

"They started taping this tape up behind me... and then I heard a lady screaming in the house over there," the neighbor said. "So I heard screaming, and then I just went over on the other side and found out that that's why she was screaming, because someone was shot in the house."
