Unauthorized Financial Activity Found In Des Plaines District 62 Account

DES PLAINES, IL — Des Plaines School District 62 officials said unauthorized financial activity involving one of the district’s accounts has prompted an active investigation.
District officials identified the unauthorized activity on May 20, according to the district. The activity originated from an outside source, officials said.
District 62 said it took immediate action to prevent further unauthorized activity. Law enforcement was notified, and all district bank accounts were flagged and secured to prevent additional fraudulent attempts.

The incident is now part of an active investigation involving law enforcement and the district financial institution’s fraud team, according to District 62.
Because the investigation is active, the district said it cannot provide further comment at this time to protect the integrity of the process.

The District 62 Board of Education entered into an executive closed session May 29 to discuss a single agenda item related to the matter.
Community Consolidated School District 62 operates 11 schools and one early learning center in Des Plaines. The district serves communities in Des Plaines and Rosemont.
