4 Cars Burglarized On Janes Avenue In Downers Grove

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — While investigating a car burglary, Downers Grove police discovered three additional vehicle burglaries via Ring camera footage.

Officers were called to a home in the 6100 block of Janes Ave. on July 27 for a report that a 2016 Chevy Cruz had been burglarized.

The victim told police she got into the car around 4 p.m. and noticed items from the glove compartment were on the front seat. She told police she later realized her wallet was missing from the car.

The resident told police she was uncertain whether she'd left the car unlocked.

Police reviewed footage from the home's Ring doorbell camera, which showed someone "approaching vehicles in the driveway" around 4 a.m., a police report said. The footage showed the individual trying to get into a locked 2014 Toyota Sienna that was parked in the driveway.

Police reviewed Ring camera footage from a nearby home that showed two cars heading north on Janes Avenue, then stopping as people got out to check for unlocked cars in driveways.

The footage showed a man with a black face covering trying to get into a locked Honda Accord before crossing the street toward the 6200 block of Janes Avenue.

A resident in the 6200 block of Janes told police someone had gotten into their 2020 Infiniti QX60 and gone through its belongings, but nothing had been taken.
