Ham Radio Club Prepares for Community Emergency at National Field Day

Event Details

Wilder Park, 175 S Prospect Ave, Elmhurst, IL, 60126

Members of the DuPage Amateur Radio Club will demonstrate how they communicate in emergency situations during June 27-28 in Elmhurst’s Wilder Park.

The public is welcome to observe, ask questions, or send a test message on club member equipment in locations near Wilder Park’s tennis courts, from 1:00 p.m. Saturday through 1:00 p.m. Sunday. Amateur radio operators of any class or license are welcome to participate with club members.

National Field Day is the largest on-air event in amateur radio, created by American Radio Relay League. Ham radio operators in the U.S. and Canada set up temporary transmitting stations to show how they serve their communities. This event combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills.

DuPage Amateur Radio Club has served the region in supporting communication at the Grove Express 5K, Darien Dash, and at Lurie Children’s Hospital during a 2024 cyberattack. They also present demonstrations to scouting and school groups.
