D205 Hires Experienced Educator and Leader as Interim Principal of Sandburg Middle School for 2026-2027
Michael Boraz appointed interim principal of Sandburg Middle School

ELMHURST, IL – The Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 Board of Education has approved the appointment of Mr. Michael Boraz as Interim Principal of Sandburg Middle School for the 2026–2027 school year. This recommendation reflects the District's commitment to providing experienced, stable leadership while conducting a thoughtful and comprehensive search for the school's next permanent principal. With more than two decades of educational leadership experience and a proven record of success, Mr. Boraz is well-positioned to ensure continuity and support for students, staff, and the Sandburg community throughout the upcoming school year.
Mr. Boraz is retiring from Chicago Public Schools as a Network Chief of Schools after serving as the principal of Lincoln Park High School for nine years. As Network Chief, he was responsible for developing, coaching, and supervising principals across the city of Chicago. He provided leadership and oversight for 28 schools, including neighborhood, selective enrollment, and fine and performing arts schools, further shaping his vast leadership abilities and adaptability by successfully addressing the unique needs, challenges, and opportunities presented by each diverse school community. Prior experience also includes seven years as a high school assistant principal and classroom teaching experience at both the middle and high school levels. He is extremely excited and passionate to return to Middle School. Mr. Boraz holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in education with certification in social studies from the University of Michigan, and an educational leadership certificate from National-Louis University.

Mr. Boraz said he is eager to become part of the Sandburg community and looks forward to working in partnership with students, staff, and families to ensure a successful school year. "I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the Sandburg Middle School community and am excited to return to school-level leadership. There is something truly special about the energy, enthusiasm, and growth that define the middle school years, and I look forward to being a part of that every day. I am eager to partner with our students, staff, and families to build on Sandburg's strong foundation, foster meaningful relationships, and create an environment where every student feels supported, challenged, and inspired to succeed. Together, I am confident we will make this a successful and rewarding school year."
In the months ahead, district leaders will work closely with the current Sandburg leadership team, Assistant Principal Greene, and Interim Principal Boraz to ensure a smooth transition into the next school year and continued momentum in our school improvement efforts. Additionally, to further support a smooth transition, Mr. Jeff Gail will return for a limited time at the beginning of the school year to provide additional leadership support and provide a level of continuity for students, staff, and families.
