Paying Off All Debt? Elmhurst Man Scammed After Giving Credit Card Number

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a scam, a car burglary, retail theft and a DUI. Here is information from the reports:

Paying off all debt

• A resident in the 800 block of South Parkside Avenue was called by someone who told him he could pay off all his debt in a one-time payment. The resident gave his credit card number. The resident ended up being a victim of theft, police said. The call was on May 5. Police were told about the scam Wednesday.

Car burglary

• A car with an open window was burglarized about 4 a.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of South Poplar Avenue. Coins were stolen.

Retail theft

• A 71-year-old Franklin Park woman was arrested about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on a retail theft charge. Police said the woman filled a gray bin with items and then stole them at the Goodwill Store, 675 W. North Ave. She was released.

DUI

• A 59-year-old Hillside woman was arrested about 2 a.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of East Butterfield Road on charges of DUI, speeding, having expired license plates and driving an uninsured car. She was taken to the police station and then released.
