West Suburban Officer On Leave After Flock Camera Investigation: Officials

BLOOMINGDALE, IL — A Bloomingdale officer is on administrative leave pending an investigation into possible unauthorized use of police department technology, according to the village.

The discovery was part of an internal audit of the department’s camera system use in response to recent concerns about Flock cameras, the village government said Friday in a prepared statement.

“As part of that review, the Village identified information indicating that a law enforcement officer allegedly used department technology systems for a purpose that was not authorized by the Village,” according to the statement.

“The Village takes the appropriate use of law enforcement technology and public safety resources extremely seriously. Upon becoming aware of the alleged unauthorized use, the Village immediately placed the officer involved on administrative leave while the Village conducts its internal investigation.”

The matter was also shared with the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office for review, the statement said. Bloomingdale officials believe the incident was isolated, but department policies, procedures and training will be evaluated, with corrective measures taken if necessary, according to the village.

“The Village of Bloomingdale remains committed to transparency, accountability, and maintaining the public’s trust,” the statement said.

“Because the matter remains under review by the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, there are limitations on the information the Village can publicly release at this time. The Village will provide additional information when it is appropriate and legally permissible to do so.”
