Evanston Schools Closed Friday, Moving To E-Learning Due To Extreme Cold

Evanston schools will be closed on Friday due to the anticipated extreme cold, officials announced.

EVANSTON, IL — Evanston students will stay home on Friday, with some attending school online due to anticipated extreme cold, school officials confirmed.

The following districts will move to e-learning for the day:

  • Evanston Skokie District 65
  • District 202

  • St. Athanasius School
  • The Academy At St. Joan Of Arc
  • Puerta Abierta Preschool
  • Reba Early Learning Center

All before and after school activities at the schools will be canceled.

The National Weather Service issued an extreme cold warning for the area on Friday, with windchills expected to be dangerous and as low as 35 below zero. Though outside activity is discouraged, officials recommend layering up and putting on a hat, face mask and gloves if you must go outside.

The high in the Evanston area tomorrow is expected to be 0 degrees with a low around -5 degrees. Windchill values could be as low as -33 with speeds between 10 and 20 mph.
