St. Mary Catholic School Introduces Student Council Members

Mokena– St. Mary Catholic School introduced its 2026-27 Student Council members during a special Mass celebrating the school’s newest student leaders. The induction ceremony marked the beginning of a year of leadership, service, and faith for students representing grades 6th-8th.

Each Student Council member was welcomed and received a certificate and Student Council pin. Father Joe Gasta offered a special blessing, asking God to guide the students as they take on their leadership responsibilities throughout the school year. Student Council Moderators Mrs. Danelle Bernas and Mrs. Tracy Cokinos will work alongside the students throughout the year, helping guide them as they take on leadership roles and plan activities and service opportunities for the school community.

The St. Mary Student Council provides students with opportunities to develop leadership skills, strengthen school spirit, serve their community, and provide a student voice in shaping school life. Throughout the year, members will work together on school initiatives, service opportunities, and community events while encouraging their fellow students to live out their faith through leadership and service.

“Being a Student Council member is about much more than holding a leadership position,” said Mrs. Cokinos.. “These students have the opportunity to use their voices, serve others, and put their faith into action. I am excited to watch them grow as leaders and see the positive impact they will have on our St. Mary community throughout the year.”

Principal Mrs. Michelle Huizinga added, “We are proud of our Student Council members and look forward to seeing them lead with faith, service, and a strong sense of community throughout the school year.”

St. Mary Catholic School is committed to providing a rigorous academic education rooted in the Catholic faith. Through opportunities such as Student Council, students are encouraged to develop confidence, responsibility, leadership skills, and a commitment to serving others. The school strives to prepare students to become faithful, compassionate, and engaged members of their communities.
