Train Passenger Safety Blitz Planned At Geneva Train Depot

GENEVA, IL — The Geneva Police Department and Metra are partnering for a community outreach campaign early Wednesday morning at the Geneva Train Depot.

From 5:30-8:30 a.m. at 328 Crescent Place, representatives will raise awareness "about rail safety and educate passengers on making smart decisions around the railroad tracks, particularly in busy commuter environments with increased rail traffic," according to a news release.

Before boarding their train, commuters are encouraged to stop by the depot to meet rail officials and police officers during the event, held in partnership with Operation Lifesaver. The nonprofit raises awareness to help prevent collisions, injuries and fatalities on and along railroad tracks.

Representatives will promote safe rail practices, distribute educational materials, answer questions and enforce pedestrian laws near the Third Street railroad crossing.

"We want every passenger to be safe and informed," Deputy Police Chief Brian Maduzia said in a statement. "The Passenger Safety Blitz is about helping commuters remain vigilant when crossing the tracks and take responsibility for rail safety."
