Glenbrook District 225 Board Earns State Governance Recognition

GLENVIEW, IL — The Glenbrook High School District 225 Board of Education has been recognized by the Illinois Association of School Boards for its governance practices and work on district priorities.

District 225 was one of 53 school districts statewide to receive the association's School Board Governance Recognition, a two-year distinction honoring boards that demonstrate effective governance, team development and a commitment to continued learning.

The district said the recognition reflects recent efforts to expand community engagement, strengthen communication and move forward with several major initiatives.

Among those efforts were the opening of a new Transition Services School, approval of a 10-year Master Facility Plan and the modernization of more than 270 district policies.

"The Board of Education is proud of our progress toward the strategic goals guiding our efforts to enhance the educational experience for every student," Board President Sandy Muhlenbeck said in a statement.

Muhlenbeck also points to the time commitment required of board members and said following governance best practices helps the district support staff, maintain fiscal responsibility and advance its long-term goals.

Superintendent R.J. Gravel credits students, staff, families, administrators and community members for their role in the district's progress.

"The accomplishments of this past year remind us that the strength of the Glenbrooks comes from the people who make up this community," Gravel said.

The Illinois Association of School Boards said its Governance Recognition program is designed to highlight the connection between board development, strong leadership and positive outcomes for students, staff and school communities.
