Missing Cat Ransom Scam, Knife Threat: Glenview Police Blotter

GLENVIEW, IL — A scammer demanding money for the return of a missing cat, an aggravated assault involving a knife and several theft and identity theft cases are among the latest reports from the Glenview Police Department.

The following information comes from Glenview Police Department reports. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.

MISSING CAT RANSOM SCAM

A victim in the 1400 block of Waukegan Road told police Sept. 1 that an unknown man demanded $500 from the owners of a missing cat for its return and refused to return the animal without payment.

Police said the phone number used was possibly spoofed and linked to similar scams.

TIMESHARE SCAM

A resident in the 1900 block of Chestnut Avenue reported Sept. 1 that they purchased a timeshare through an unknown person and sent five Zelle payments totaling $8,353.26 before discovering it was a scam.

FLEEING AND ELUDING

Police attempted to stop a motorcycle traveling northbound on Waukegan Road at around 9:58 p.m. Sept. 1 for observed traffic violations.

Police said the motorcyclist accelerated away at a high rate of speed.

PACKAGE THEFT

A package was stolen from a front porch in the 500 block of Briarhill Road at around 1:39 p.m. Sept. 2.

Police said an unknown man took the package and fled southbound.

FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE SCAM

A Glenview resident told police Sept. 2 that they were defrauded of $306 in a Facebook Marketplace transaction involving a radar detector.

IDENTITY THEFT

A resident in the 900 block of East Glenwood Road reported Sept. 2 that an unknown man used identification containing the resident's information to fraudulently obtain a newly delivered debit card from a UPS driver.

THEFT

A person reported Sept. 3 that a credit card and $20 in cash were stolen from a bag left unattended for about five minutes at a business in the 3800 block of Willow Road.

Police said the victim later received an alert about a declined purchase attempt.

WALLET THEFT

A person reported Sept. 3 that someone took a wallet from their bag at a business in the 3800 block of Willow Road and attempted to make a purchase.

TRESPASS WARNING

Employees at a business in the 2600 block of Navy Boulevard reported Sept. 3 that a patron became irate with staff and said they could slap them.

The person was given a trespass warning not to return.

IDENTITY THEFT

A resident in the 1300 block of Plymouth Lane reported Sept. 4 that someone used their identity to open a bank account and charged $933.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD

A resident in the 300 block of Glenview Road reported Sept. 4 that someone unlawfully used their personal information and credit card number to make a $4,128 purchase.

THEFT

An employee at a business in the 200 block of East Lake Avenue reported Sept. 4 that a person was trying to sell gold coins inside the business and left without paying their bill.

HARASSMENT

A resident in the 1600 block of Greenwood Road reported shortly after midnight Sept. 5 that an unknown person sent Snapchat messages referring to where the resident lived and making vague threats.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

A Des Plaines resident told police Sept. 5 that while waiting in line at a business in the 0 block of Providence Drive, two former acquaintances confronted them over a previous issue.

Police said the resident approached the subjects' vehicle and saw the driver pull out a knife. The resident began recording on a cellphone, and the driver allegedly struck the phone before the passenger got out and pushed the resident.

TRESPASS WARNING

An employee at a business in the 200 block of Waukegan Road reported Sept. 5 that a customer swore at employees, spit on the floor and threw coffee on the floor.

The person was given a trespass warning not to return.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

A resident in the 1800 block of Monroe Avenue reported Sept. 5 that dog feces had been left by their front door.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

A Chicago resident reported Sept. 6 that a man approached and asked for a sexual favor.

Police said the man left after the resident yelled at him.

DISPUTE

An employee at a business in the 9800 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported Sept. 6 that a person yelled at them outside about ordering before entering the business and continuing to swear at them.

CANNABIS POSSESSION

A Morton Grove resident was issued a village ordinance citation Sept. 7 for possession of cannabis following a traffic stop in the 1600 block of North Milwaukee Avenue.

BICYCLE THEFT

A resident reported Sept. 7 that a bicycle had been stolen from a rack in the 2500 block of Chestnut Avenue sometime between Sept. 4 and Sept. 7.

DOMESTIC BATTERY

Adam Dupree, 46, of Chicago, was arrested Sept. 2 on a domestic battery charge.

Police said Dupree was processed and held for transport to the Skokie Courthouse for a Sept. 2 court appearance.

WARRANT

Julie Dey, 37, of Morton Grove, was arrested Sept. 2 at the Glenview Police Department after police said she turned herself in on a warrant issued by the Freeport Police Department.

Dey was processed and charged with issuance of a warrant.

RETAIL THEFT

Elliot Scott, 33, of Chicago, was arrested Sept. 4 and charged with retail theft.

Scott was released under Cook County non-discretionary pretrial release conditions and given an Oct. 21 court date at the Skokie Courthouse.

DUI

Oscar Alarcon Jr., 20, of Northfield, was arrested at around 2:55 a.m. Sept. 6 in the 1200 block of Milwaukee Avenue.

Police charged Alarcon with DUI-alcohol, DUI with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more, illegal transportation of alcohol, changing lanes without signaling and improper lane usage.

He was released under Cook County non-discretionary pretrial release conditions and given an Oct. 1 court date at the Skokie Courthouse.

LEAVING THE SCENE

Stephen G. Young, 71, was arrested Sept. 6 at 2100 Pfingsten Road following an accident investigation in the 1900 block of Johns Drive.

Police charged Young with leaving the scene, failure to report a vehicle accident, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and a driver's license class violation.

He was released under Cook County non-discretionary pretrial release conditions and given an Oct. 6 court date at the Skokie Courthouse.
