Off-Duty Officer Was Killed In Motorcycle Crash: Suburban Police

MUNDELEIN, IL — Two days after his death, Mundelein police said off-duty Officer Paul Viduya Jr. was killed in a motorcycle crash in McHenry.

The department announced his "sudden and tragic" death on Sunday but did not say how the 28-year-old had died.

On Tuesday, police said Viduya died in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday near Charles J. Miller Parkway and McHenry Avenue. McHenry police continue to investigate the crash. Viduya was the only person on the motorcycle when it crashed, police said.

"It is with profound sadness that we honor the life of" Viduya, police said. "Officer Viduya dedicated his life to serving and protecting the Mundelein community. His unexpected passing is a heartbreaking loss for his family, friends, fellow officers, and all who had the privilege of knowing him."

Additional information regarding services will be shared as it becomes available, police said.
