Highland Park Beaches Closed, Food Trucks Canceled Due To Poor Air Quality

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Beaches, activities and programs have been closed or canceled in Highland Park due to poor air quality.

Current air quality levels have reached a range considered unhealthy, particularly for children, older adults, pregnant individuals, and people with asthma, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions, according to the city. Outdoor activities, including swimming, sunbathing, and recreational sports, are not recommended until air quality improves.

In Highland Park, Hidden Creek AquaPark, Rosewood Beach, Sunset Valley Golf Club and the Golf Learning Center are closed. The city also canceled Food Truck Thursday.

The city said the closures will remain in effect until air quality conditions improve to levels considered safe for public recreation. Conditions are being closely monitored, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.

The advisory affects both residents and visitors planning time outdoors at the lakefront. The city encouraged people to avoid prolonged outdoor activity, keep windows and doors closed when possible, use air conditioning or portable air cleaners if available, follow guidance from local public health officials, and check current air quality conditions before planning outdoor activities.
