Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering Launches 2027 Reelection Campaign

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering announced her campaign for reelection in the 2027 election, opening her bid with endorsements from current and former elected officials, community leaders, business owners and residents across the city.

Since first being elected mayor in 2011, Rotering has led Highland Park through periods of challenge and progress. Throughout her tenure, she has prioritized maintaining the city's financial position, investing in public safety and infrastructure, supporting local businesses, advancing sustainability initiatives and strengthening the community through collaborative leadership.

"Every decision I’ve made as Mayor has been guided by one simple question: What’s best for the people of Highland Park? As our community grows and changes, so do the needs of our residents," Rotering said. "I’m running for reelection because I believe we can continue creating a city where children have every opportunity to succeed, families can put down roots, seniors can age with dignity, businesses can thrive, and every resident feels safe, heard, and connected. That’s the Highland Park I want to keep building together."

In her announcement, Rotering said her next term would focus on strengthening Highland Park's business community, maintaining fiscal responsibility, continuing investments in infrastructure and public safety, supporting families and seniors, and keeping the city welcoming.

"The next few years will shape Highland Park for decades to come. From supporting local businesses and investing in public safety to protecting the character of our neighborhoods and ensuring opportunities for every generation, the decisions we make today matter. I’m running because I believe in this community and because I want to continue working alongside residents to continue to build the future they deserve," Rotering said.

Among those backing her candidacy is U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider, who said Rotering has consistently demonstrated the integrity, vision, and steady leadership that Highland Park deserves. Former City Councilmember Dan Kaufman said he was impressed by Rotering's vision, dedication to fiscal stability and ability to manage municipal leadership.

Business owner Amy Morton of The Barn Steakhouse, community activist Terry Kass, Working Together Founder Alicia De La Cruz and Shamash Founding Member Allison Winton Nemirow were also listed as supporters.

Rotering said her campaign will begin with neighborhood conversations, community events and ongoing opportunities for residents to share ideas for Highland Park's future.
