Why TAC, Why Now?

The Art Center Highland Park's studio art classes cater to every kind of North Shore resident.

Did you know that The Art Center Highland Park welcomes more than 2,400 enrollments each year in our arts education classes? Or that we have over 50 highly qualified teaching artists offering classes seven days a week, all year long? TAC has become one of the most active, accessible, and welcoming creative hubs on the North Shore.

Our goal has always been simple: make art available to everyone. For seniors, that means wellness‑focused classes that support memory, dexterity, and social connection. For artists with physical or cognitive challenges, it means smaller classes, adaptive support, and instructors who meet students exactly where they are. For adults and teens, it means a full range of classes for every age and skill level.

But what about the “newbies”? The people who want to try an art class but feel intimidated, unsure where to start, or a little “rusty”? We’ve got them covered, too.

Each Winter and Spring, we offer our popular Minis—one‑day to two‑week classes designed to give you a taste of the longer sessions. We also break some classes into shorter four‑ or five‑week options for those who want a smaller time commitment or a lower upfront cost.

And the flexibility continues into Summer. While kids dive into creative exploration at our Summer Art Camp (ages 6–16), it’s the perfect time for parents and caregivers to take a class of their own. Add in one‑ and two‑day workshops, a speaker series, and online options, and there truly is something for every schedule and every season.

TAC is warm, welcoming, and competitively priced with similar programs—and we are not just for Highland Park. Whether you live in Deerfield, Buffalo Grove, Highwood, or anywhere on the North Shore, you’re part of our community. We are the art center for the region: a cultural hub where creativity, connection, and belonging come together.

So what are you waiting for? TAC—Take a Class. It’s good for you, and you deserve it.
