'Slide, Ride, Swing' At Coming Hinsdale Playground

HINSDALE, IL – Caterpillar climber. Dueling slides. Bongos. Saucer swing.

Those are some of the features planned at the new playground at Hinsdale's Dietz Park, replacing the 21-year-old playground.

At Tuesday's Village Board meeting, Trustee Michelle Fisher spoke about the playground, which is expected to be completed next spring.

"It combines traditional playground elements with more challenging ninja adventure-style features," she said. "The main structure includes multiple slides, climbing walls, ladders, bridges, overhead climbing elements and interactive play components."

She described the dueling slides as side by side and a way for children to race each other.

The project is expected to cost about $200,000.

"Everyone get ready to slide, ride and swing at Dietz Park," Fisher said.

Fisher also reported on the ongoing Robbins Park treehouse-themed playground, which she said was expected to be ready by early October.

When the playground is done, people will get a "magical feel" by entering a vine-covered tunnel, she said.

"Everything is moving along splendidly," Fisher said.

The project is made possible by the local Mather family's foundation, which donated $200,000.

The foundation is in honor of Stewart Mather, a Hinsdale resident who died of cancer at 42 in 2020.
