Lockport Submits Grant For Future Downtown Lockport Streetscape Project

LOCKPORT, IL — At its Wednesday meeting, the Lockport City Council authorized the submission of a grant for the future streetscaping project on State Street, from Sixth Street to Eighth Street.

The City is going to pursue funding for the project through the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program.

With the acquisition of properties on the west side of State Street, north of Eighth, the City has decided to extend the existing downtown Lockport streetscape north from Eighth Street to Sixth Street.

In Council documents, the City said the proposed project will make a more attractive, pedestrian-friendly corridor and a gateway to downtown from the north.

The project would also include the installation of pedestrian Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon signals at Sixth and Seventh streets, according to Council documents.

Design engineering would take place in 2027, and construction would be in 2028. According to council documents, the estimated project cost is $1.5 million.

The grant program provides up to 80 percent funding, if awarded.
