Gun On Campus Prompts Lockdown At H-F High School: District
The school was placed in a hard lockdown Friday afternoon.
HOMEWOOD, IL — Homewood-Flossmoor High School was placed on a hard lockdown Friday afternoon due to a report of a gun on campus, the district said in an alert to parents.
Flossmoor police said in a statement Friday afternoon that a firearm and ammunition were found on the floor inside Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s South Building. Officers secured the scene and recovered the firearm, along with the ammunition. Video footage was reviewed, and several students were interviewed as part of the investigation, police said. A suspect was taken into custody.
"Please know that the firearm is now in police possession and the individual has been taken into police custody," the district said. "No active threat exists at this time."

The incident happened around 1:30 p.m.
Police departments remained on site "to ensure the safety of everything," the notice to families said, adding, "Police will remain on site during a staggered dismissal at 3 p.m. by building to maintain a safe environment. Out of an abundance of caution, everyone will remain in their current location until dismissal at 3 p.m. We understand this situation may be stressful. Student and staff safety is our top priority, and we will continue to provide updates as soon as we have confirmed information."
