Man Killed After Jumping Off Interstate To Quarry Below: Police
Officers responded to the quarry after receiving a report of a dead person, police said.
THORNTON, IL — A man is dead after he jumped off the interstate into the quarry below in Thornton, according to police.
Officers responded around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday to the West Quarry Lobe of Thornton Quarry after receiving a report of a dead person, police said.
“Preliminary information indicates the individual was an adult male who apparently died as a result of a suicide after jumping from Interstate 80,” the Thornton Police Department said in a news release.

“Due to the location and circumstances of the incident, the Illinois State Police have assumed responsibility for the investigation.”
State police were assisted on scene by Thornton police and fire officials.

"Out of respect for the individual and their family, no further information will be released at this time," the news release said.
