The Chicago Teacher’s Union (CTU) announced that 95 percent of its members voted “yes” during a vote last week to go on strike.
CTU will meet this week to discuss next steps, but the earliest day a strike could begin would be Tuesday, Oct. 11 after the Columbus Day holiday, according to the Hyde Park Herald.

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) teachers have been working without a contract since June 2015. This is the second vote in the last year that CTU members have had in regards to authorizing a strike, the last time with 88 percent of members supporting the authorization of a strike. CTU members went on a one-day walk out on April 1.
