ROCKDALE, IL — Although the Will County Coroner's Office of Laurie Summers has yet to issue a press release on the matter, Rockdale's Police Department has confirmed that Tuesday's 2 p.m. collision along Route 6 near Brandon Road was in fact a fatality. Police Chief Butch Dykstra informed Joliet Patch that his officers subsequently found out the motorist who was removed from the damaged car died at St. Joe's Hospital.

The chief said it was his understanding the car crash victim was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at St. Joe's hospital. Tuesday's fatality involved a car heading east and a semi cab driving west along the four-lane U.S. Route 6 that runs between Joliet and Channahon.

Rockdale police said the investigation determined that the car, for reasons still unclear, veered over the yellow center line and was hit by the semi cab heading in the opposite direction along Route 6. The semi cab driver was not hurt. The police chief said it's his understanding that the motorist who died was a man in his early 40s from the Joliet area.
