Shorewood Motorist, 21, Killed In Sunday's Interstate 55 Wreck Before Sunrise Has Been Identified: Coroner

The fatal crash involved several vehicles all traveling in the same direction along southbound Interstate 55 between Joliet and Shorewood.

JOLIET, IL — Will County Coroner Laurie Summers announced on Monday that Sunday's fatality along Interstate 55 in Joliet killed a 21-year-old village of Shorewood resident named Jose A. Perez. The fatality happened along I-55 southbound in Troy Township and the Illinois State Police is continuing to investigate the crash, she noted.

According to Illinois State Police public information officer Ryan Wagand, ISP Troop 3 responded to the I-55 location near Black Road for the report of a three-vehicle fatal traffic crash.

One occupant was pronounced dead at the scene. One occupant was transported to a local hospital with injuries. All southbound lanes were closed and reopened at approximately 11:20 a.m. Traffic was diverted off I-55 southbound at U.S. Route 30, he noted.
